This is not exhaustive; the summer schools and holiday sessions are being prepared.  We specialise in creative and performing arts, arts and crafts  for all and holiday activities especially  outdoors like bushcraft, archery and more. If you know of five people who would like to do something not listed

please ring and I’ll  design and deliver a bespoke event.

DRAWING WORKSHOPS BY HARRY POTTER ARTIST CLIFF WRIGHT.

Drawing is a universal language; it transcends barriers and penetrates to the core of our understanding of who we truly are. The sessions are designed to get you drawing - especially if you are a beginner - drawing can be relaxing, fun and a magical journey of self-discovery. It will also enable you to see the world around you more vividly, as if for the first time. The workshop atmosphere is informal, light-hearted and non-competitive. There will be plenty of opportunity to receive feedback about your work and to ask questions as group numbers are kept small.

 

 

 

AN INTRODUCTION TO BOTANICAL PAINTING WORKSHOPS WITH ALISON WASPE

I – 3 days ;  Price £55 per day  alternatively 6 week course of 1.5hr sessions £100

This is am informal course for anyone interested in this subject from complete beginners to the more experienced. Observe and sketch seasonal plants then add watercolour using the ‘wet into wet’ technique, alternatively experiment with watercolour pencils or pen and ink. Please bring a HB pencil, rubber and watercolour paints, Size 6 or 10 brushes. Paper provided. Beginners welcome.

 

 



JEWELLERY  MAKING ( Foundation)
1,2 and 3 day courses 15  July / 12 August / 15 September 10.00am to 4.00pm | £45 for the day plus materials

Make gorgeous jewellery with Precious Metal Clay. It is fine silver or gold particles mixed with an organic binder forming a clay texture, this can be moulded, textured and carved and when dried it is fired and the binder burns away leaving fine silver 99.9 % pure. These exciting workshops are creative and fun and you will love your bespoke handcrafted silver jewellery piece.  

 

COSMETICS and Bath PRODUCTS  - SATURDAY WORKSHOP

Enjoy a day making your own natural herbal products for your bath. Making skin softening Bath Melts, containing cocoa butter, dried herbs, sea salt and essential oils, Bath Bags with oats and herbs, exfoliating Body Polish Gel and a cleansing Body Wash. A detailed hand-out will be yours to take home containing all the recipes and information about the raw materials used.

 

 

PHOTO-POETRY week  - Creative Practice with John Hunt Photography

DATES : OCTOBER HALF TERM

Photo-poetry is a short course designed for creative fun but with an emphasis on developing skills and techniques along the way. Starting with a view, a word, a thought, a dream even and then begin a process of shaping and transforming ideas into powerful images. You will work on techniques for capturing visual images with John and for painting pictures with words with Phil using the dramatic backdrop of the Jurassic Coast and the atmospheric scenery of Lyme Regis. The course concludes with a digital exhibition of your work and a photo-book record will be posted to you soon after.

 

KITE MAKING AND FLYING

10.00am to 4.00pm  | £40 | every week all summer

In the early days, kite designing and making was an art exclusive to a small group of people who are gifted with tremendous amount of aerodynamic knowledge, skilful in drafting and sewing. Not anymore!  With the help of modern kite design fundamentals, kite design software, database of airfoils, sample kite designs, almost anyone can make their own kite.

 

BUSHCRAFT

1 or 3 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £45 for the day |

Learn more about the traditional craft of basket weaving in our one and two day courses. Suitable for complete beginners, this course will teach the basic skills that you  need to create your own truly unique basket to take home with you.

 

BASKET MAKING

1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day

plus £3.50 - £5.00 materials.

STONE BALANCING with Adrian Gray

Spend a day or two on the beach with Adrian who has been developing his art for many years. His ability to create compositions of wonder is evident. Witnessing the balancing is mesmerising , magical and awe inspiring. The creative process has a tangible meditative quality and there is an unexplained energy to Adrian Gray's Art.

 

PILATES and Wellbeing

1, 2  or 5 day programmes  | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £50 for the day and £300 for the week

Lindsay will energise you with fantastic workouts, knowledge on technique and tips for keeping a healthy routine with plenty of ideas and positive energy.  She is fantastic at passing on the ability to achieve a healthy body, clear mind and soaring spirit.  The 5 day programme focuses on strengthening your core muscles and is ideal for both beginners wanting to tone, improve posture or address back problems, and those more advanced looking for an intense workout.  Lindsay will help you condition your body and mind so you are strong, beautiful and fit.

 

INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day
This course will give an insight into the many facets of the honeybee. The year of the honeybee and the beekeeper will be explained. The queen, the drones and the worker bees will be described and the role they play within the colony structure. Products of the hive will extend beyond just the honey and the part they play in our lives.
 

WORKING WITH SILVER
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £600 for the day | £85 for two days Plus materials by weight (approx. 65p/gm inc. solder etc.). 

This is really popular: a two day class with a professional silversmith is aimed at complete beginners and improvers. Starting with sheet metals and expert guidance you will learn to do it all : cut, shape, solder, bezel set stones and polish to make small items of jewellery to your own designs. You are welcome to work in gold.

FRAGRANCE MAKING
1 / 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm £125 for the day, to include materials.
Make your own fragrance under the guidance of a professional natural perfumer. Alec Lawless, author of 'Artisan Perfumery or Being Led by the Nose' has been working with essential oils and absolutes for over twenty years. The day is an introduction to the intriguing world of scent and will include some talks about aspects of fragrance covering the history, production of natural raw materials and the modern industry. As well as leaving with your own fragrance in a 56 ml Italian flint crystal bottle there will be time to smell some very unusual natural aromatics and ask any of those questions that you have always wondered about.

 

FRAME BASKET
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm £125 for the day, to include materials. £185 for two days (plus materials approximately £10)

The ' hoop and rib' construction technique used in frame basketry lends itself to country style baskets. Students will make a small basket with a handle in a size of their choice weaving with bark-on willow in a variety of natural colours.


SCULPTING GLASS BEADS
3 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm |  £300 for three days including materials
We
will teach you how to make sculpted glass beads. Starting with the basics, and using some of her most popular designs.  You will learn all about heat control and how to use it for sculpting, using gravity and hand tools to help with shaping. Also how to approach surface decoration as it applies to sculptural beads through the use of enamel powders, silver & gold leaf, wire and mesh.
 

WILLOW GARDEN SUPPORTS
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day (Plus materials approximately £8 each support)
Weave an ornamental and functional wigwam style plant support and be prepared for your sweet peas this year! Learn to make these popular willow forms and take home a wealth of ideas to help you carry on experimenting in your garden as well as a finished piece. Addictive and fun.

 

GROWING VEGETABLES
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day

Learn all about producing beautiful vegetables and salads and make sure you know how to get a good long  harvests, whether on a windowsill, in your garden or on the allotment.. Organic salad growing and ' no dig' vegetable gardening tips will be shared plus experience of every stage from ground clearance to harvesting, including protection of crops and lessening slugs.  A not to be missed opportunity for anyone who already grows, or aspires to grow their own vegetables.
 

LAPIDARY
£55 (plus nominal charge for materials approx £3 per slice)
A hands on course to create your own gemstone, you will cut, grind, polish and finish slices of natural semi-precious rock in to beautiful cabochon stones for setting in silver or simply to keep and enjoy - its not magic its lapidary!

 

SILK PAPER AND FASHION WITH FELT

 £55 (plus materials approximately £5)

A wonderfully creative day exploring two compatible fibre crafts: silk paper with hand made felt. Transform textile scraps and organic materials with lustrous silk fibers into sheets of richly coloured paper. Then use them to inspire and embellish your hand made felt masterpiece. Liz will demonstrate cutting, layering and laminating techniques with both 2D and 3D designs.

 

BOOK MAKING, PAPER MAKING and MARBLING

£35 for one day ( plus materials £10)

 

ENAMELLING SIFTING AND STENCILING

1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day

An introduction to the art of vitreous enamelling which is the process of fusing glass to metal.  The glass, which has been ground to a powder, is applied to metal and fired in a kiln.   During the day, you will make a two-sided pendant; this project is designed to enable you to practise the enamelling procedures of sifting, wet inlay, scrolling, and stencilling as well as silver foil application.

 

 STAINED GLASS PANEL incorporating kiln fired painting
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £50 for the day | £85 for two days plus materials approximately £20 to include practice glass, paint, firing, all lead, foil and glass

Stained glass panels are beautiful and you can make some too using copper foil, lead work and incorporating traditional hand painting (fixed by kiln firing the glass). This programme  is a  voyage of discovery through each of these fascinating techniques and ending up with a marvellous finished panel, up to a square foot in size (larger pieces can be started)

 

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY and natural stones setting
 
3 day programme | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £50 for the day | £85 for two days | £130 for three days plus materials plus materials
Day 1 technical basics of making a pendant and earrings making bails, stone setting, drilling, torch firing and finishing a piece. Setting Natural Stones Days 2 & 3 Explore stone setting | - initial pack containing clay, sheet, paste, stones and sundries supplied at a cost of approximately £90 - further materials available if requires.

MAKING HERBAL REMEDIES
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £40 for the day  plus materials ( £20)

What a fantastic day hand-crafting four home remedies for your herbal first aid kit. Healing Ointment.  A detailed hand-out will be yours to take home containing all the recipes and information about the raw materials used.

 

FABRIC and/ or  PAPER PRINTING  - Lyme or studio workshop trips
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £50 for the day  plus materials ( £20) £95 for two days (plus materials approximately £20)

Experiment with print on textiles. Explore a range of surfaces using  dyes, pigments, flocks and foils. Photographic silkscreen, open-screen printing and heat-press methods will be used to create a range of layered fabrics

 

FORAGING NATURES LARDER.

A real River Cottage experience with nature’s wild food. As Hugh has highlighted wild food is fantastic and best of all free. So we have designed a course that allows a master forager to take you out into the countryside to find and identify various wild edible plants. After the forage, we’ll all go back to a kitchen to cook and eat what we have discovered. In the afternoon you’ll be shown you ways to preserve wild foods.

 

RUSH BASKETS

Using top quality rush you will create your own rush basket

 

STITCHING  all sort and making all sorts

1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £60 per day (plus approximately £4 - £12 for rush)
Lots of stitching and couching thicker yarns by hand and with your sewing machine – cutting, reassembling and adding decoration, with some hand stitching included.

 

SILVER AND BEADS

2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | from £130 - £230  depending on what beads and including gas, glass & silver tube

Make your own with silver and core beads making some from silver core beads from scratch.; make glass lamp work beads on large mandrels and then line them with silver tubing.

 

BLOCK PRINT YOUR CHRISTMAS CARDS
1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £50 per day including a glass of festive cheer with lunch

You will produce colourful original prints using traditional techniques, make individual festive cards using wood block printing.
 

FLEECE and FELT FASHION

1 or 2 day | 10.00am to 4.00pm | £90 per day including materials and a glass of wine with lunch

Felt yourself a fashion statement using glorious wools and silks. Crimpy, shaggy or just fantastically sleek and lustrous. Come and enjoy a fashion makeover for yourself or your home. Start from scratch or bring an old favourite to embellish, adorn and revive. Liz will show you how to blend beautiful local wools with silks and other gorgeous fibres and then apply masterful 3D effects to your fabulous felt creation. An opportunity to go wild, limited only by your imagination!
